LIHU‘E — The Department of Parks and Recreation announced Monday that a portion of the parking lot at Nawiliwili Park fronting Kalapaki Bay in Lihu‘e, will be closed starting Tuesday for repairs due to damage caused by the high surf over the weekend.
On Saturday, multiple videos posted to social media captured massive waves overwhelming the seawall and soaking the parking lot behind it.
DOPR crews will be closing the parking lot and driveway section of Nawiliwili Park to make the necessary repairs. Park rangers will assist with the closure effective midnight Tuesday.
Officials anticipate the repairs will be completed by the following day, weather permitting. Updates will be provided when the parking lot has been reopened.
