PUHI — Coming a week ahead of the Kaua‘i Community College nursing department’s big exams, students had time on Tuesday to celebrate $36,500 in scholarships that were presented by representatives of the Mokihana Club and the Rotary Club of Po‘ipu Bewach Francis Dillon Memorial Scholarships.
“They’re going to need this,” said Maureen Tabura, a KCC nursing instructor who supervised a group of nursing students during their week’s stay at the Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women &Children for on-site field experience.
Other students were involved with the East Kaua‘i Lions Club and other partnering organizations in performing blood screening work on Saturday during the “Take Charge of Your Health: Free Diabetes and Blood Pressure Screnning” event at the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center in Puhi.
The Mokihana Club presented $29,000 in scholarships shared among 18 students, including Tiana Albarado, Melinda Belmodis, Kelsea Carrasco, Joelie Claro, Fritz Custodio, Laura Hadley, Mary Hall, Tai Higashi, Tori Higashi, Jenny Lagura, Azea Minia, Kelsie Norton, Tyra Oshiro, Jelacia Peralta, Kimberly Ramos, Ma Suerte Rebucal, Deva Silberud and Jazlyn Swartz. Belmodis, Norton, and Silberud were dual winners, because in addition to The Mokihana Club scholarships the trio each received $2,500 scholarships from the Rotary Club of Po‘ipu Beach Francis Dillon Memorial Scholarship fund.

Ok KCC Nursing Teachers- please do not expel 9 students due to failing a test during the 2nd year of Nursing School as you did in 2019!!! You folks need to assure your students are prepared for your exams…. that was a total program/teaching failure!!!
