Council taking easy way out
Like many of us, we form our opinions on how we were brought up.
In my case, I was brought up to have good work ethics and try to never rely on anyone else when it comes to making a living, raising a family, providing a roof over their heads, feeding them, and instilling the same behavior in my children.
The hard earned experience has paid off for me and many others. I could never afford to hand out everything to my children, but my experiences in life. All three of my adult children are successful, own their own homes, and have raised their families with the ethics I taught them. I can only be thankful to their success and extremely proud for their futures.
Unfortunately there are many young adults and families on Kaua‘i who are not experiencing my life efforts, and are struggling and need affordable housing.
I read that our County Council is proposing to use a percentage of our property tax to provide the solution to the problem. By doing this, it is the easy way out for council members to reach into our wallets so they can say we solved the problem.
I say, if the council was to use their resources there are thousands of acres that is owned by the county and state. They could very well install infrastructure on select properties and create lots that people can lease for long term at a extremely affordable price.
We can create lots of jobs that build homes in a factory that can be purchased affordably and moved to those lots. By doing this you can create the affordability needed for these families.
I can see that if people could lease and own their home for, let’s say, for example, $1,500 a month, it’s a lot better solution than using our property taxes to create affordable housing for those in need.
Thank you and much aloha to everyone.
