KALAHEO — When the Kaua‘i Rotary Club unleashes the light explosion of the Lights on Rice Parade, the Kalaheo School Sunshine Express will not be there, said Laine Griffith of the Sunshine Express.
“That’s the opening night of our play, ‘Disney 101 Dalmatians Kids’ musical,” Giffith said. “It’s been so long since we’ve been able to do this.”
The production, featuring a 27-student cast, is based on the Disney cartoon classic, and features villainous kidnappers who run up against a whole littler of brave puppies.
The Sunshine Express production runs for one weekend starting Dec. 2, when curtains rise at 7 p.m.
The production repeats on Dec. 3 with a 7 p.m. curtain time, and a Sunday matinee starting at 2 p.m. at the Kalaheo School cafeteria.
“The students of the Sunshine Express club have been working so hard on their dancing and singing,” Griffith said. “Our volunteers have created fabulous costumes. It’s been so long, and we can’t wait to share this live performance with everyone. Is Cruella going to get her coat?”
Tickets are $5 for adults, and $1 for children ages 2 to grade five. Tickets will be available at the door, or by calling 808-332-6801. Food, snacks and drinks will be on sale.
Pongo and Perdita are two dalmatian parents happily raising their puppies when Cruella De Vil appears with a burning need for a new coat.
Cruella’s plan to steal the puppies results in the dogs of London planning a risky rescue from Cruella and her henchmen. The high-energy show is packed with catchy tunes and some adorable doggie dancing choreographed by Selah Johnson.
