Bill ‘Kaipo’ Asing
Bill “Kaipo” Asing, also known as William Ulrich Asing Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at the age of 92. Born on Sept. 11, 1930, in Ha‘ena, he was a cherished father, grandfather or “papa” and uncle to us all.
He worked for Hawaiian Telephone for 45+ years, and served as a County Council member for 28 years, with eight of those chairperson. He also served as interim mayor from July 2008 to November 2008. He was a proud member of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by the “love of his life,” his wife of 70 years, Patsy Naito Asing, father William Ulrich Asing, mother Anna Kanani Chee and sister Maile Asing Semitekol.
He is survived by children Kaipo R. Asing of Maui, Healani Asing, Kaili (Dukie) Asing, Linekona (Val) Asing and Kaipo Y. (Dera Caberto) Asing, all of Niumalu, and Maile (Ryan) Koyanagi of Hawai‘i Island, grandchildren Alika (Debbie) Asing of Maui and Amber (Cali) Carlos and Tori (Richard Domingo) Koyanagi of Hawai‘i Island, great-grandchildren Kamailelauli‘ili‘i and Kaipoleimanu Asing of Maui, Trysten Caberto, Isaiah Brainerd, Meleana, Kilinoe and Hilina‘i Asing of Niumalu and Kukaleo Carlos of Hawai‘i Island, brother John Asing, sisters Mapuana Guzman, Ellarene Yasuhara, Syliva Ing, Arlene Kamoe and Maydell Morgan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were arranged by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa.
Eleanor Labez Estenzo
Eleanor Labez Estenzo, 83, of Kapa‘a, passed at home on Nov. 15, 2022. She was born in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Philippines, on Feb. 3, 1939, and retired from Wilcox Memorial Hospital as a nurses’ aide.
She is preceded in death by parents Sotero and Consorcia Estenzo, brothers Walter Estenzo and Marco Estenzo and sister Kathy Howell.
She is survived by children Marie Estenzo, Maria “Cecilia” Burns, Fernando Estenzo and Jeanette Estenzo, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, siblings Rosa Dejos, Nelson (Gloria) Estenzo, Gerardo “Larry” Estenzo, Feleilani Phillips and Wilfredo (Tessie) Estenzo, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Dec. 17, at St. Catherine Church, with viewing from 10 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens &Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
