HONOLULU — Data released on Wednesday by the state Department of Health showed 54 new COVID-19 cases on Kaua‘i from Nov. 8 to Nov. 14, and 1,049 new cases statewide.
Kaua‘i’s seven-day COVID-19 case average increased slightly last week to eight cases a day, compared with seven cases a day the prior week.
The test positivity rate on Kaua‘i was 8.2 percent, compared with 5.1 percent statewide.
No COVID-19 deaths were reported on island last week.
Nationwide, new COVID-19 subvariants have overtaken BA.5 as the main strain of the virus. BQ.1.1 and BQ.1, which now make up 44 percent of new cases, appear to be better at avoiding immunity gained from vaccines.
