LIHU‘E — As part of a 6,000-meal state distribution by The Salvation Army, Kaua‘i branches are planning to distribute more than a thousand Thanksgiving holiday meals on Nov. 23, the day before Thanksgiving.
“We are grateful for the generous help of corporate partners, volunteers, advisory boards, staff and Salvation Army officers for organizing our annual Thanksgiving events in Hawai‘i, from Hanapepe to Honoka‘a,” said Maj. Phil Lum, divisional commander for The Salvation Army Hawaiian &Pacific Islands.
“We humbly ask the community for their continued support and encourage those in need of a meal to reach out to The Salvation Army corps in their community.”

On Kaua‘i, The Salvation Army Hanapepe Corps, with the help of the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort &Spa, will be distributing 450 hot Thanksgiving meals through a drive-thru, grab-and-go format from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 23, or while supplies last.
There is a limit of five meals per vehicle.
The Hanapepe Corps will be supported by volunteers from the West Kaua‘i Lions Club, the KANAKA School, Episcopal Church West Kaua‘i and the Kokua Soup Kitchen volunteers.

The limit of five meals per car will be observed at The Salvation Army Lihu‘e Corps, which plans to distribute 600 hot Thanksgiving meals at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall on a drive-thru, grab-and-go format on Nov. 23 starting at 10 a.m., and continuing while supplies last.
Some of the groups volunteering at the annual event include the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i, the Kaua‘i Lions Club, The Salvation Army Lihu‘e Corps advisory board and Lihu‘e Corps members.

Monetary contributions to support The Salvation Army’s feeding efforts during the holidays and through0ut the year can be made online at ThanksgivingHawaii.org.
Additionally, from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, customers at all Foodland and Sack N Save stores in Hawai‘i are able to make donations at the checkout through Foodland’s “Share a Holiday Feast” program to help those less fortunate in Hawai‘i.
Foodland customers are able to donate cash or use their Foodland Maika‘i points to help. Those donations will be turned into Foodland gift cards and distributed by The Salvation Army to families in need on the island where the donations were received.
