KIPU — The Kaua‘i Humane Society has several community events planned for the rest of this month, beginning with free pet services being offered this week during the Kaua‘i Housing Connect events at both the Hanapepe and Lihu‘e corps of The Salvation Army.
The society is partnering with the Kaua‘i Community Alliance to offer the free pet services at the Hanapepe Salvation Army Wednesday, Nov. 16, and the Lihu‘e Salvation Army on Thursday, Nov. 17, both from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The society will be offering free pet vaccines and microchips, leashes, collars and pet food, and signing up people whi need regular pet food assistance and reduced-cost spay and neuters.
Additionally, all this month, the society is waiving all adoption fees for senior animals during Adopt A Senior Pet Month.
Further, thanks to the DeSantis family, the society has more than 50 available slots left for the off-island adoption special, which they call Mission Mainland 2.5.
The special is an all-inclusive price of $300 to adopt and transport a Kaua‘i pet (or two kittens) to the West Coast or neighboring islands, or $500 to adopt and transport anywhere past the West Coast within the U.S. The price includes leash, collar, travel crate, vaccines, health certificate, boarding, flight, transport to the airport and transition food.
The society’s Home for the Holidays promotion encourages families to foster shelter pets over the Thanksgiving holiday break. The Kipu facility is closed Thanksgiving day.
By bringing a shelter pet into the home, participants are giving that pet much more attention than he or she would receive at the shelter, according to a Kaua‘i Humane Society press release. The society gives participants all supplies needed. Learn more and sign up at kauaihumane.org/about-us/events/home-for-the-holidays/.
Tuesday, Nov. 29 is Giving Tuesday, one of the largest single fundraising days of the whole year for nonprofits. The donations from Giving Tuesday help set up the agency for success in 2023.
The Kaua‘i Humane Society is the only open-intake animal shelter on Kaua‘i, and is a nonprofit organization that has held a no-kill status since 2019. In 2021, KHS’s positive release outcome rate averaged 96% for all animals. For more information about the Kaua‘i Humane Society, visit kauaihumane.org.
