NAWILIWILI — Starting immediately, families wishing to get a free Thanksgiving meal can call the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank at 808-246-3809, extension 2, and leave a message for a callback reservation.
Kelvin Moniz, KIFB executive director, said that through an anonymous donor, the food bank is able to offer a Thanksgiving meal while supplies last.
The meal includes a 15-pound bag of rice, a 12-to-15-pound turkey, a box of Stove Top stuffing, and assorted canned foods, includings, yams, cranberry sauce and vegetables.
To register, families can call the food bank and leave a message for a callback from KIFB staff to confirm the caller’s registration.
The orders are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis, with pickup of meals Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Moniz said this Thanksgiving meal offer is in addition to KIFB’s food giveaways that take place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Nawiliwili facility, at 3285 Wa‘apa Road.
The Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank is also in the midst of its Holiday Food and Fund Drive that started Nov. 1 and will continue through Dec. 31.
“Help us help others” is the motto of the drive, where donors and supporters can contribute either nonperishable food or cash or checks at any of the Kaua‘i fire stations or the KIFB Nawiliwili facility.
