LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Landscape Industry Council will be celebrating Arbor Day with its 18th annual free tree giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Kukui Grove Center.
Approximately 1,000 trees will be given away, including many native, such as alahe‘e, ko‘oko‘olau, koai‘a, kou, munroidendron, ‘ohi‘a, ‘uki‘uki, and native hibiscus species.
The public is encouraged to come early because the event closes when all of the trees have been given away, or at noon, whichever comes first.
A keiki planting zone provides a fun activity that teaches youngsters how to transplant and grow young seedlings that they can take home and cultivate.
The free trees and activities are made possible through the sponsorship of Kaulunani Urban &Community Forestry Program, Corteva Agriscience, No Ka Oi Landscape Services, and the island’s local supporters, plant growers and volunteers.
Arbor Day celebrates the importance and value of trees in everyone’s lives, states the Plant With Purpose group that has equipped farmers to plant more than 40 million trees in some of the countries where they are needed most.
