Happy birthday to Marques Vargas-La‘amea, who celebrated his special day in the midst of all the Halloween madness swirling about. He had his special shirt to let the world know (did Ron Wiley know?) it was his special day on Sunday, where he was not aware the Kaua‘i Resilience Project was presenting Trunk or Treat in a nearby parking lot at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.

More madness continues Friday when the Kaua‘i High School hospitality and culinary programs combine to present Taste of Kaua‘i High — go early or no parking!
The Pacific Fleet Band is here doing outreach through the week before presenting a public performance on Friday at KGC and participating in the annual Veterans Day Parade (yes, it is this Saturday). Did you get you ballot in the mail? The election moves the festivities to the north Vidinha Stadium fields. Don’t damage the grass for the Sunday soccer games.
And, the biggest little carnival takes place on Saturday (from 10 a.m.) and Sunday at Hanapepe Stadium through the combined efforts of the Hanapepe Colts, Hanapepe Cubs and all the other affiliated football and baseball associations.
OK, have you signed up for the Lights on Rice parade? Yes, it’s back! The website (lightsonrice.org) is live along with the site for the Old Koloa Sugar Mill Run (oldkoloasugrmillrun.org) presented by the Rotary Club of Kaua‘i.
And, don’t forget, Rebecca Hansen presents “Steel Magnolias” starting this Friday at the Island School Main Hall in Puhi with a “pay what you can” admission charge.
