The KCC cafeteria reopens after COVID
PUHI — People making their way to the Kaua‘i Community College Health Fair on Tuesday were greeted with exciting news on campus.
“This is the first day of the cafeteria opening,” said Marty Amaro of the culinary arts department. “We’ll be open for lunch only from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for November only.”
Tuesday’s opening featured assorted cold beverages, the steam table menu of entrees, and the grill with assorted sandwiches, including burgers, and the pasta station.
“At first, we’re doing the pasta station twice a week,” said Mia Lorenzo, the culinary arts student in charge of stoking the pans. “We have three choices today, and you can watch me cook the dish you want.”
Tuesday’s opening marked the first time the cafeteria opened its doors to diners since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the school. When doors opened to the fall semester, the cafeteria remained close, leaving diners with a limited selection of bento and other items prepackaged and available at the college bookstore.
The news was also welcomed by the volunteers working with the Kaua‘i Community College nursing program that put on the Health Fair in the Fine Arts Auditorium, who looked forward to checking the menu of hot food available following their shifts.

Wow. cooking school on Kaua’i. I watch the cooking show on cable tv all the time. Just for fun and cooking tips. It takes 2/3 cups milk and 2 large eggs to make 1 batch of french toast. 6 slice bread. What if you only had 1 egg to work with, but still wanted french toast. How much milk would you need then?
