Mayor Derek Kawakami (Island School’s Bradley Pratt worked for the county during the summer!) was amped up, and Sam Pratt (Bradley’s last race before graduating Island School!) had to scramble on Saturday morning when the starting horn of the Honolulu Marathon (this should definitely be The Kaua‘i Marathon banner, Robin Jumper!) Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association cross-country state championships sounded.

Great job, Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation (everyone was there!) on hosting the island’s first state tournament in three years. The Baldwin High School team was surrounded by the Halloween craziness while enjoying their post-race meals outside Oki Bento at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e after the race.
And Coach Erin Dunn had her Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy buddies enjoying the Rice Street Block Party, where Bev Brody (she even had time to visit Courtney Wilson of Shiprek, who was involved with the unveiling of the Mana Wahine mural, too!) was flying with the bicycle that had exaggerated safety features built in. Attalia and Eri Alverdes (they got to be on the other side of Pineapple Expressions during the Rice Street Block Party) said a lot of the teams were booked at the Hilton Garden Inn Kaua‘i Wailua Bay, where the Wailua Creators Fair will host an extra fete on Nov. 13 from 8:30 a.m.
Got to check out the last gasps of the pumpkin at the 16th Wilcox and Kaua‘i Medical Center Keiki Parade (there’s another one on the Westside at the Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation Kaua‘i Region, too!) before the Pau Hana Market at KGC.
