Ruth Leilani (Kailikini) Naumu
Ruth Leilani (Kailikini) Naumu, of Lihu‘e, passed away at home on Aug. 26, 2022. She was born on Nov. 27, 1953, in Waimea.
She was preceded in death by husband Dwayne Naumu, son Garrett Naumu, parents Abraham and Ermine Kailikini Sr. and Janet and Wallace Naumu, siblings Abraham Kailikini Jr. and Pamela and Ernest Dow.
She is survived by children Tiffany (Debbie) Naumu, Trisha Naumu and Krystal (Daren) Naumu, hanai son Micah Paglinawan, sister Cynthia (Kailikini) Blair, brothers-in-law Darryl (Caroline) Naumu and Glenn Naumu, grandchildren Brenden, Aleajah and Taytra Naumu and Kelcie and Dayna Ragasa, and great-grandchild Camille Ambrose.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Kailikini family residence, 5010 Awawa Rd., Hanapepe, beginning at 11 a.m.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lt. Charles Augustus Naihe
Lt. Charles Augustus Naihe (retired), 66, passed away peacefully at his Wailua home on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, surrounded by his family. Known to all as Charlie, he was born in Honolulu on June 23, 1956, to Edward Sr. and Irene Kahalelaukoa (Baker) Naihe, and raised in Waimanalo. He was married to Terry Ashbaker (divorced, deceased), Marilyn Aniu (divorced), Dianne McCarthy (deceased), and Cynthia Tucker (estranged).
He is survived by children Moani (Lee) Fields, Moana (Mark) Piena, Maria (M. Paul) Waite, Maile (David) Lindsay, Makana (Scott) Bacon, Mahiʻai Naihe, Lawaiʻa Naihe, Ihe (Emma) Naihe and Pahoa (Chelsea) Naihe, 23 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers Edward (Karen) Naihe, Newman (Priscilla) Naihe, Cy Naihe, Lane “Bula” Naihe and Kamuela Naihe, sisters Debra Flores, Valerie (Richard) Medina and Jade (Young) Bedell, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is Saturday, Dec. 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4561 Ohia St., Kapaa, at 11 a.m. Visitation begins at 9 a.m.
Barbara Porter (Steenhof) Stuart
Barbara Porter (Steenhof) Stuart died on Oct. 20, 2022, at her home in Murphy, Idaho, just a month before she would have turned 100. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Karen Steenhof of Murphy, Idaho. Also surviving are stepchildren Robert Stuart, Jr., Gail Stuart and Nancy Stuart Reid, 11 step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents Clarence Watson Porter and Sarah Gaylord Porter (Morse), brother Ralph Porter, and three husbands: Danny Holenshade in 1944, Norman Steenhof in 1984 and Robert Stuart in 2015.
She was a resident of Illinois, Colorado, Hawai‘i, Maine and Idaho. Born in Oak Park, Illinois on Nov. 21, 1922, she was a graduate of Oak Park High School and Rockford College. She had a career as a copywriter for a Chicago advertising agency, and she spent her entire life as a dedicated volunteer, supporting many worthy causes and actively working on numerous environmental and community projects through the years.
During World War II she volunteered for the Red Cross and at the veteran’s hospital. She helped to raise funds for several charities, served eight years on the PTA, five years as a Camp Fire Girl leader, and a year as a girls’ softball coach in Oak Brook, Illinois. She and her family moved to Colorado in 1968. As a founding member of the Denver Zoo Associates, she worked as a docent and was the editor of the zoo magazine for eight years. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling to Africa in both 1968 and 1971.
She lived in Princeville from 1979 until 2014. She was a member of the first board of the Kilauea Point Natural History Association and worked with the late refuge manager Dan Moriarty in forming the volunteer program at the refuge. She was a wildlife interpreter at the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge for 30 years and served as the Audubon Christmas Bird Count compiler for 19 years. She was an active member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Kilauea. She was also a volunteer at the Kaua‘i Museum for four to five years.
She spent her last nearly eight years living in Murphy, Idaho with her daughter, Karen. During that time, she formed many close friendships with several people in Murphy. She participated in Owyhee County Museum activities and the Murphy book club. She enjoyed seeing antelope and wild horses from her window as well as other wildlife in the yard (including two young cougars on one day!)

Elsie Taeko Takata
The celebration of life gathering for Elsie Taeko Takata is Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at Niumalu Canoe Club, Kalapaki Beach (behind the ABC Store).
The informal service starts at noon, and includes an open mic for anyone who would like to share a memory or anything. Lunch and homegrown entertainment will follow. All are welcome to share talents.
We’re honoring our mom and her wish to have that one more reunion gathering.

Sione Kami Taufatofua
Sione Kami Taufatofua passed away on Sept. 9, 2022, in San Diego, at the age of 52. He was born on June 30, 1970, in Hihifo, Ha’apai Tonga. He was a mason and owner of Taufatofua Construction.
He was preceded in death by father Uili Teili Taufatofua and grandson Kainoa Taufatofua.
He is survived by wife Celena Taufatofua, sons Ueili (Erika) Taufatofua and Sione (Kiley) Taufatofua, daughters Melaea Taufatofua and Celena “Lena-Mae” Taufatofua, brothers-in-law/hanai sons Soane Latuniupulu and Paul Latuniupulu, mother Kesaia Feifai Taufatofua, brothers Ha’unga (Denise) Taufatofua and Uili Vea (Chantelle) Taufatofua, sisters Siuki Haileni (Siuela) Peleketi, Melaea (Etuini) Pongi Vaka and Langi Tu’ulilo (Tevita) Tuamoheloa and grandchildren Sione Teili Taufatofua, Isaleilia Taufatofua and Selalea’aelopa Taufatofua.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Princeville Makai Golf Course, Ka Haku Lawn, 4080 Lei O Papa Road in Princeville, starting at 3:30 p.m.
