LIHU‘E — Debbie Chuckas, the Macy’s Kukui Grove stores manager, and some of the Macy’s ‘ohana, celebrated the presentation of its “Mission Every One” $2,500 scholarship to the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation.
“The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Scholarship Foundation would like to say ‘Mahalo to Macy’s’ for their generous donation to our Zonta Club of Kaua‘i scholarship program,” said Edie Ignacio Neumiller on behalf of the club and foundation.
“Zonta’s motto is to ‘Build a Better World for Women and Girls,’ and to empower women through service and advocacy. This Zonta International’s mission is closely aligned with Macy’s mission, which is to create a brighter future that empowers more voice, choice and ownership for communities,” Neumiller said.
The Macy’s scholarship offers grants in several focus areas.
“The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation is very grateful to receive the scholarship to support their focus areas for youth, including training, mentoring and learning programs, mental and emotional health and well-being and environmental stewardship,” Neumiller said. “The scholarship will be awarded to a young woman who will graduate from a Kaua‘i high school in 2023.”
Chuckas said the scholarship is meant to empower young women and have more of an impact when they come back to Kaua‘i following their post-high-school educations.
The Mission Every One statement by Macy’s indicates they will direct $5 billion of its spending by 2025 to its people, partners, products and programs to create a more equitable and sustainable future — and empower more voice, choice and ownership.
“It’s our commitment to use our business and brands to tackle the barriers to representation so, together, we can realize the potential in every one of us,” the Macy’s statement said.
