Car horn honking not acceptable
With the proliferation of vacation rentals (VRs), not only in Vacation Destination Areas, but in all neighborhoods, has come the increased cacophony of the car horn.
I have recently been surrounded by 6 VRs, displacing an equal number of long-term local rental units. I realize this is a much more lucrative income source than long term, and although it has contributed to the local housing problem, I do not begrudge the owners their due. In many cases it is a retirement investment to be available when that time comes. But that is a discussion for another time.
One thing that disturbs the peace at all hours of the day and night is the honking horns and alarms of rental cars. It is not necessary to honk the horn to lock the car, most new keyless ignition fobs lock the car automatically when you walk away.
Some people are not convinced it really works, so they honk a few more times to be certain. Or, you just need to touch the door handle, or, the fob can be easily programmed to lock the cars silently. Besides, if you remove any items you don’t want stolen, an unlikely event, just leave the vehicle unlocked in your parking place. We have tried at the local level to educate visitors on this, but then the next “wave” restarts the cycle.
I believe this is something that can and should be handled at the source, i.e., the rental car companies. Rental car companies, if you’re listening, please deactivate the horn locks or at least advise the renters that horn honking is not acceptable in Hawai‘i. County Councils, if you’re listening, consider this form of pollution an action item.
Just one of those things that would add to our already pretty peaceful life on Kaua‘i.

Online ticket sales miss valuable audience
It seem like KIF Sports is getting to be for only High School Students and a few who knows how to purchase a game ticket electronically on line.
There are elderly people (myself included) who do not know how to run a computer, i phone, or whatever electronics you need to purchase a game ticket.
We would like to continue to support our grandchildren, nephews, nieces, etc. by participating in these high school activities. However, what’s mentioned above we can not!
Please bring back the ticket booths. It used to be the students and teachers that use to run the booths. Please bring back the ticket booths.

Aloha Tommy,
Princeville has been designated as a Visitor Destination Area. I think that was in the disclosure when you purchased the property? Better get used to it.
Tommy Thompson……. what you speak of is nothing more than the typical tourist everyday events that always take place in a “visitors destination areas” and at least you realize by having to deal with the training of “waves” checking in, it”s never going to cease. When residents become irritated as you have I would highly suggest you don’t live in a “visitor destination areas. You will gain a great session of mental health for your actions solutions to your problem.
