LIHU‘E — The Waimea High School girls air rifle team were paced by Rochelle Uri and Brielle Lo tying for the day’s best scores of 255 points apiece Friday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation air riflery matches that contested at two sites, the Waimea High range and the Bernice Hundley Gym on the Kapa‘a High campus.
The individual girls’ efforts moved the Menehune girls to a 1,257-point total to capture the day’s best score for the girls, just 57 points ahead of the Kaua‘i High girls who were led by Logan Lagazo accumulating 248 points over the three shooting positions.
The visiting Red Raider boys topped the competition at the Menehune range with 1,267 points compared with Waimea, which finished with 1,117 points, led by Masao Fontana grabbing 244 points. Top marksman for Kaua‘i High belonged to Hekili Dizol, who topped the Red Raiders with 257 points, just a point ahead of Jordan Andres, who finished with 256 points.
Over at the Kapa‘a range, the Island School Voyager boys got a boost from Gabriel Kelley finishing with a range-best 244 points to outpoint the host Warriors, 1,019 points to 852 points from the Warrior squad that was limited to just four marksmen, one shooter shy of the normal five on the team.
Kainoa Danner posted the best record of the day for Kapa‘a with 240 points, just four digits shy of Kelley’s total.
Ella Anderson continued to set the pace for the Lady Warriors, finishing with the range-best 254 points to lead the Kapa‘a girls team to an 1,141 point total compared with the Voyager girls, who finished with 751 points spread out over just four shooters.
The final KIF air rifle matches for this season take place Friday when Kapa‘a travels to the Waimea High range and Kaua‘i High hosts Island School at its home range. First shots go off at 4 p.m.
The Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state meet will take place Oct. 25 at the Neal Blaidell Center on O‘ahu.
