MANA — Danika Braun had the heavy foot during the Garden Isle Racing Association Oct. 1 drag races held at the Kaua‘i Raceway Park during daylight hours.
Braun burned the quarter mile in less than eight seconds, reaching 169.35 mph, the fastest car of the day, toward taking top honors in the Top Gun class over the father-son team of Bruce and Cy Akaji, who red-lighted.
Braun was also one of three wahine drivers to place tops in their respective classes, the other two being Mary Kealoha who topped the Pro ET class, and Alma Koetje taking the Muscle V8 class.
GIRA officials said there is just one last race for this year. This race will take place on Nov. 12, and will be a day race due to the endangered seabird fledging season. Race officials also remind the public that no animals are allowed at the track. Tickets are available online at www.thefoat.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate on race day for $20 cash only.
