October is here!
Edie Ignacio Neumiller said there are pink aloha shirts for guys who want to display pink in support of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Regina Carvalho of the Kaua‘i Status of Women Committee will have some of her sisters at the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market on Saturday where it’s also Bikes on Rice (no one gets left behind!) at the Kalena Park.
So, for those who prefer another color, there’s always purple to celebrate the YWCA of Kaua‘i Week Without Violence campaign with a special candlelight vigil being held Oct. 19 at the St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.
Retail stores are beginning to invite the special Halloween guests like the witches preparing Rat Stew by Rocky Pascua of Ainofea at the Kukui Grove Center, who is redoing the store’s layout to provide a more airy environment for her shoppers and staff.
Jean Souza said the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery will be distributing free Ocean Learning Kits on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m., and switching to free distribution of the “Homeowner’s Handbook to Prepare for Natural Hazards” (kupuna likes to distribute these books, Jean said) on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
