Germain G. ‘Wenna’ Chandler
Germain G. “Wenna” Chandler, 62 of Ha‘ena, passed away on Sept. 4, 2022.
Born on Feb. 21, 1960, in Lihu‘e, she was employed by Hanalei Initiative as the Ambassador of Aloha, welcoming all who come to the gates of Ke‘e upon entering.
She was preceded in death by parents Francis Elias Chandler Sr. and Elizabeth “Kapeka” Mahuiki Chandler, brothers William Hughes Chandler and Lawrence La‘amaikahiki “La‘a boy” Chandler Sr., and sister Jasmine Kainoa Chandler Forrest.
She is survived by partner Michael Schermerhorn of Ha‘ena, sisters Juanita Chandler Montanez of the Philippines, Bethan “Tita Beth” Baptista of Hanalei, Belinda “B” (Iwa Ho‘omanawanui) Chandler, Rachel “Lahela” Chandler and Ruth “Luka” Chandler, all of Wainiha, brothers Francis “Buddah” (Rhoda Wright) Chandler Sr. of Honolulu, Kirkland Kuhio (Hilary Ferris) Chandler Sr. of Kilauea, Aloysius Moku (Nancymae Pu‘ulei) Chandler Sr., Jeffery Chandler/Linda Thompson, all of Wainiha, Colan “Toleto” (Coty Whipple) Chandler of Honolulu, Silas “Pa‘ula Chandler of Wainiha, Conrad “Racky” (Thomas Rubalcava) Chandler of Maui, brother-in-law Ralph “Skip” Forrest of Kapahi, sister-in-law Amie Jan Chandler of Kalihiwai, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended ‘ohana.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Oct. 8, at Waipa Foundation. Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by service 10 a.m.
Jane Tomoe Kuribayashi
Jane Tomoe Kuribayashi passed away on Sept. 15, 2022, at home at the age of 100. She was born on April 18, 1922, in Hanapepe. She was a proprietor of Kukui‘ula Store.
She was preceded in death by parents Shigeki and Kiyono Yamamoto and husband Hajime Kuribayashi.
She is survived by sons Paul (Terry) Kuribayashi of Koloa and Lloyd (Debbie) Kuribayashi of Honolulu, daughter Carol (Craig) Iwase of Waipahu, brother Thomas (Jeri) Yamamoto of Hanapepe, sisters Lois Hashimoto of Hanapepe and Grace (Robert) Okamura of Honolulu, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Saturday, Oct. 8, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 3 to 4 p.m, with Buddhist services to follow. The family requests casual attire and that monetary gifts and flowers be omitted. Mask wearing is optional.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Chiyoko D. Hashimoto
Chiyoko D. Hashimoto passed away on Aug. 29, 2022, at the age of 101.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1920, in Kekaha. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by parents Torahachi and Tatsumi Deguchi, husband Masaki Hashimoto, brother Toraichi Deguchi and sisters Doreen Inazu, Haruko Matsunaga and Kiwae Hokama.
She is survived by son Nelson Hashimoto, daughter Sharon (Charles) Kunioka, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Private services were held.
Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Eva P. Keawe‘ehu
Eva P. Keawe‘ehu, 85, of Kapaa, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Sept. 23, 2022. She was born on Jan. 8, 1937, in El Paso, Texas. She retired as a chambermaid with Coco Palms Hotel.
She was preceded in death by daughter Eva Estella Alayvilla, great-grandson Kingston Jesus Texeira, siblings Jesus Perez, Nayo Pineda, Reuben Perez, Antonio Pineda, Francisco Pineda and Bertha Perez.
She is survived by children Jennifer M. (Calvin Papas) Texeira, Marella A. Texeira, Carol S. (Ronald) Alalem, Michael (Melady) Texeira, Thomas Texeira, Roberto (Laureen) Texeira and Alfredo Texeira, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers Alberto Perez and Alfonso Perez, sister Emma Perez, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held with immediate family only on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
