Robert Anthony Young
Robert Anthony Young, 61, passed away on July 8, 2022, in Bastrop, Texas.
He was born on July 25, 1960, in Honolulu.
He was preceded in death by mother Betty Gomes, father Richard Young, papa Joe Gomes, Lyvonne (Eddie) Cremer and Aaron “Kalani” Pezario-Young.
He is survived by wife Pamela Young, children Brandon Fukuda of O‘ahu, Ashley (Jonathan) Fernandez, Tiera Gonsalves and Rheanna Young, stepchildren Dustin (Echo) Zinsmeyer of Texas and Van Zinsmeyer of Texas, siblings Richard (Fran) Young, John (Deanna) Young, Florence (Kevin Ono) Young-Cawaring and Joey Figaroa-Young, step-siblings Kenton (Donna) Gomes, Glenn (Doreen) Gomes, Norman (Nalei) Gomes, Gary (Jeanette) Cabagua Jr. and Victoria Cambe, nine grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunties and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Oct. 8, at Po‘ipu Beach Park, starting at noon. Potluck, please bring a dish to share.
Gordon James Mattos
Gordon James Mattos, 77, of Kekaha, passed away on Sept. 18, 2022, at home surrounded by his wife and eight children. He was born on Feb. 18, 1945, in Hilo, and graduated from St. Joseph High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy before starting his career with the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands, where he retired with over 51 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by parents John and Mary (Amaral) Mattos and brothers Robert and John “Jippy” Mattos.
He is survived by wife Adele (Pereira) Mattos, children Marlene (Greg) Cieless, John “Scooby” (Joanna) Mattos, Loretta (Joshua) Witmer, Adeline (Julian) Gilliam, Christine (Robbie Jr.) Silva, Timothy Mattos, Jessica Mattos and Mary (Trisdon) Yadao, 20 grandchildren, brothers Roy (Jill) Mattos and Thomas (Jackie) Mattos, sisters Rosemary Nunogawa, Bernadette Tomas and Sherry (John) Macayan, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Saturday, Oct. 8, at St. Theresa Church, with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass to begin promptly at 9 a.m. A private burial service will follow. The family respectfully requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
John ‘JP’ Alexander Kalimahana Punua
John “JP” Alexander Kalimahana Punua was born in Lihu‘e on Sept. 15, 1956. He grew up in Wailua, and passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2022. He lived a great life and was loved and appreciated by his family, many friends and co-workers. He enjoyed an outstanding, 37-year career as a senior flight attendant with Hawaiian Airlines.
He was preceded in death by mother Mary Ann Ku’uleialoha Punua.
He is survived by father Victor Punua Sr., daughter Herenui Ku‘uleialoha Punua, former wife Cara Tekopunui, sister Ku‘uleialoha (Yossi), brothers Victor Jr.(Cheryle), Wallis (Shana) and Edward Sr. (Vanessa), nieces Kei‘alohi, Kawehi (Russell) and Leimomi, nephews Kaimana, Matthew (Patrice), Micah, Kala‘e (Kris), Iki (Chandee), Marcus and Edward Jr., grand-nieces Victoria, Lana, Stella and Lilinoe, and grand-nephews Kamakau, Hekili and Mason.
A service is Saturday, Oct. 8, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation starts at 1 p.m., service at 3 p.m. and reception to follow.
Rodney Cachero
Rodney Cachero passed away on Sept. 26, 2022, in ‘Ele‘ele at the age of 61. He was born on Aug. 19, 1961, in Waimea. He was a general maintenance laborer.
He was preceded in death by father Ricarte Cachero, brother Orlando Cachero, and grandparents Hilaria and Benny Caberto and Maxima and Damaso Cachero.
He is survived by girlfriend Lisa Heath of Waimea, sons Nicholas (Kimberly) Cachero of Kalaheo, Roddy (Kirri Anderson) Cachero of Kekaha and Jakob Cachero of Kaua‘i, stepson Chris Cantu of Honolulu, daughter Whitney (Lawrence) Yadao of ‘Ele‘ele, stepdaughters Brittany Florez of Waimea and Angela Heath of Waimea, mother Pauline Cachero, stepmother Expedita Cachero, sisters Judy (Jeffery) Miller of ‘Ewa Beach and Daisy Oyama of Honolulu, grandchildren Ridge Cachero, Kaiea Kali, Harley-Rose Cachero, Daxtin Cachero, Brixtin Cachero, Nixtin Cachero, Jeili Rosare-Yadao, Laney Yadao, Lennox Yadao and Lynx Yadao, great-grandchild Kalani Banania, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Sunday, Oct. 9, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., with celebration of life services at 11 a.m.
The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Gloria Bunao Gacusan
Gloria Bunao Gacusan, 76, of Puhi, passed away at home on Sept. 8, 2022. She was born on Nov. 16, 1945, in Santa Ignacia, Tarlac, Philippines. She retired as a pantry chef with the Grand Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa.
She was preceded in death by husband Teodorico Gacusan, parents Tiburcio and Marcelina Bunao, and brothers Domingo Bunao, Sergio Bunao and Rudolfo Bunao.
She is survived by children Anna Lisa Gacusan, Corelie (Jonathan Carvalho) Gacusan, Carlos (Joy) Gacusan and Noli (Andy McNicholas) Gacusan, grandchildren Xavier Idica, Cameron Gacusan, Rihnna DeMateo, Logan Carvalho and Makayla Gacusan, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Friday, Oct. 28, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e. Viewing is from 9 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Adelina Navor Negrillo
Adelina Navor Negrillo passed away on Sept. 25, 1922. She was born on March 13, 1935, in La Union, Philippines.
She was preceded in death by husband Mariano S. Negrillo, parents Elena Espiritu Navor and Agapito (Rachel) Nazareno Navor Sr., brother Juanito (Anacleta) Navor, sisters Paulina (Cresencio) Bumatay and Dariene Navor, son Johnny Navor Negrillo and grandson Ramil Negrillo.
She is survived by brothers Ricardo (Adele) Navor Sr. and Agapito (Melissa) Navor Jr., sister Cecilia Navor, children Rogelio (Mary) Negrillo of the Philippines, Loreta (Avelino) Sibayan of the Philippines, Florentina (Federico) Embernate of Lihu‘e, Leody (Susan) Negrillo of Kapa‘a, Ruben Bogs (Juvy) Negrillo of Lihu‘e, Ronnie (Violy) Negrillo of Lihu‘e and Carineo (Marlyn) Munar of Lihu‘e, daughters-in-laws Nida Negrillo and Nora Desamito, 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service is Friday, Oct. 7, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Viewing is from 8 to 10 a.m., services at 10 a.m., and burial to follow.
Arlene Evalani Chun
Arlene Evalani Chun, 71, of Kekaha, passed away on Aug. 29, 2022, in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was born on Nov. 28, 1950, on O‘ahu. She retired as a clerk at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands.
She was preceded in death by husband Ronald Chun, mother Dora Ingraham, father George Ingraham, mother-in-law Gladys Chun and father-in-law Edward Chun.
She is survived by daughters Ronda Chun of Delray Beach, Florida, Crystal (Michael) Shimatsu of Waimea, Jamie (Bryan) Fandrich of Billings, Montana, son Aaron Chun of O‘ahu, seven grandchildren, brother Jerome Ingraham of O‘ahu and sister Janice Ingraham of O‘ahu.
A service is Saturday, Oct. 15, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha, with viewing from 9 a.m. and service at 10:30 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at Kekaha Gardens Park on Uliuli Street in Kekaha. The family requests aloha attire and that flowers be omitted.
Judith ‘Judy’ Ellen Jardin Gonsalves
Judith “Judy” Ellen Jardin Gonsalves, of Kalaheo, passed away Sept. 8, 2022, at the age of 77, at Straub Medical Center on O‘ahu. She was born Oct. 22, 1944, in Waimea to Albert and Clara Jardin, the first of two daughters.
The vast majority of her life was spent in Kalaheo near family. She graduated from Waimea High School in 1962. In 1966 she met the love of her life, Leon Gonsalves Sr., as they worked together at the Waiohai Hotel. She and Leon were married in March of 1967 and remained together until his passing in 2015. Together they very proudly raised four sons.
She loved animals, especially dogs, and couldn’t remember a time in her adult life when she didn’t have a dog. More often than not, it was multiple dogs at the same time.
She held different jobs over the years, such as house cleaning for private residences and working at various grocery stores. She enjoyed her final employment as a meat wrapper for Sueoka Store in Koloa the most.
She was preceded in death by parents Albert and Clara Gomes Jardin, husband Leon Gonsalves Sr., son Lionel Gonsalves, brother-in-law Peter Kali and nephew Peter Kali Jr.
She is survived by sons Leon (Patricia) Gonsalves Jr., Lance (Tobey) Gonsalves and Loran (Linette Rita) Gonsalves, seven grandsons, four great-grandchildren, sister Alberta Kali and niece Clarice Kali.
Private services will be held. The immediate family will receive family and friends at the family home at 4590 Pu‘uwai Rd., Kalaheo, on Saturday, Oct. 8, at noon.
