KILAUEA — The state Department of Transportation announced a single-lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction between Kapuna Road and Wailapa Road Monday through Friday, Oct. 3 to 7, 2022, for installation of asphalt sealant.
• A single-lane closure on Kuhio Highway eastbound between Kahili Makai Street and Wailapa Road is possible Monday through Friday, Oct. 3 to 7, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for clearing of vegetation around high-voltage lines;
• A single-lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction between Kolo Road and Kahiliholo Road Monday through Friday, Oct. 3 to 7, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for grass and tree cutting and clearing and cleaning of guardrails.
Waikoko
• A right-lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction between mile markers 4 and 4.6, vicinity of Waikoko Bridge and Waikoko Point, Monday through Friday, Oct. 3 to 7, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for tree and grass cutting and debris removal.
Wailua
• A right-shoulder closure and narrowed lanes of Kuhio Highway are possible in the southbound direction between mile markers 5.7 and 6.7, in the vicinity of Leho Drive and the Kapa‘a bypass road, for the Kuhio Highway Short-Term Improvements.
Kapa‘a
• Portions of Mailihuna, Hau‘a‘ala and Kawaihau roads will be closed from Monday through Saturday, Oct. 3 to Oct. 8, 2022, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The intersection of the three roads will experience temporary traffic shifts, and temporary traffic-control plans will be in place as construction of the new roundabout continues. No road work will occur during the peak traffic times for school drop-off and pick up. The project aims to construct a peanut-shaped roundabout, sidewalks, paved shoulders and various other roadway improvements to help improve the safety and operations of the five-way intersection of these three roads. The roundabout portion of the project has an estimated completion date of Nov. 2022. The project as a whole has an estimated completion date of July 2023;
• A roving right-lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction between mile markers 9 and 10.7, Kamole Road to Kawaihau Road, Monday through Friday, Oct. 3 to 7, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for cutting grass, trees, and cleaning guardrails.
Lihu‘e
• A single-lane closure is possible in the northbound direction of Rice Street, between the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort Lihu‘e and Mokoi Street, for a time-trial survey. The study period will be from Wednesday to Friday, Oct. 12 to 14, 2022, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The study will allow the state DOT to evaluate the impact of closing the climbing lane on Rice Street. The potential closure of this lane will then allow DOT to make future improvements in this area to better serve multi-modal travelers, such as bicyclists and pedestrians.
Koloa
• Portions of roads in Koloa and Po‘ipu will be closed weekdays Monday through Friday from Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, to Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for road-resurfacing work, with the tentative schedule as follows: Waikomo Road, between Po‘ipu Road and Kapau Road, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3 and 4, 2022; and Po‘ipu Road between Koloa Road and the Po‘ipu Road Roundabout, Tuesday through Wednesday, Oct. 4 to Oct. 19, 2022;
• A roving, single-lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway is possible in either direction between mile markers 5.6 and 9.1, Kahili Road and Upa Road, Monday through Friday, Oct. 3 to 7, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for grass trimming around guardrails.
Lawa‘i
• A shoulder closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway in the eastbound direction is possible between Koloa Road and Piko Road, Monday through Friday, Oct. 3 to 7, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for utility work.
