LIHU‘E — Through the month of October, the Kaua‘i County Committee on the Status of Women has organized the illumination of the Historic County Building and the Lihu‘e Civic Center Mo‘ikeha Building rotunda in pink lights for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This is the fifth year pink lights will illuminate the Historic County Building, and the second year for the Mo‘ikeha Building, to support those affected by breast cancer, as it is the most-common cancer amongst women worldwide. Breast-cancer awareness is important, as early diagnosis of this disease can result in treatable and lifesaving outcomes.
“Building awareness is important, but taking action is essential,” said KCCSW Vice Chair Regina Carvalho. “We encourage regular screenings and monthly self-exams, as early detection does save lives.”
The KCCSW will also participate in the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market this Saturday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 8 p.m., where they will be handing out pink balloons, buttons and ribbons in support and recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness. The public is also encouraged to wear pink throughout the month of October to show support for those affected by breast cancer.
