PRINCEVILLE — This Friday, Sept. 30 is the deadline to register for the Ninth annual ‘Ohana Fit Fest Obstacle Fun Run to receive discounted entry fees. There are also lower registration fees for children 12 years old and younger at the website, ohanafitfest.com.
Presented by the Kaua‘i North Shore Community Foundation in partnership with the Princeville at Hanalei Community Association, the event takes place this Saturday with the opening of late registration and silent auction at 6:30 a.m.
Taking place in Princeville, the ‘Ohana Fit Fest is a family-friendly event featuring an obstacle race covering approximately 5k that includes the Princeville path, ocean-view holes of the Makai Golf Club, and the Princeville Mauka, or Woods, golf course.
During the race, participants will take on obstacles that may involve crawling, climbing, tackling mental challenges and more, organizers said.
Organizers said racers can get competitive and attempt to win a race medal, or just have the option to run with friends and family along the specially-designed course. Walkers are also welcome, and do not need to tackle any of the obstacles.
The race starts and finishes at Prince Albert Park, where a community fair starts at 7 a.m. with a farmers’ market, silent auction and live music provided by The Party, a local band.
Organizers said there is very limited parking available. Participants and spectators will be directed to park at the Makai Golf Club, where free parking is available and a free shuttle will operate continuously between the parking lot and park.
Proceeds from the ‘Ohana Fit Fest will be distributed through grants to local nonprofit organizations to help fund health and wellness projects.
During the 2021 ‘Ohana Fit Fest, funds were donated to the Princeville at Hanalei Community Association for outdoor fitness equipment and bike racks. This year’s proceeds are being earmarked for nonprofit organizations to help maintain and repair North Shore and beach-access trails.
