ANAHOLA — Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters responded to mulitple brush fires Friday that broke out in Anahola.
At approximately 2 a.m. on Friday, firefighters were dispatched to the first brush fire reported on the mauka side of Kuhio Highway near mile-marker 12.
Firefighters with the Kapa‘a and Kaiakea fire stations, rescue specialists with the Lihu‘e fire station and other assets responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, KFD personnel discovered a large brush on the mauka side of Kuhio Highway. KFD personnel used approximately 200 gallons of water to control the head of the fire, which allowed firefighters to gain further access to the fire and assist with extinguishing the 1.5-acre fire.
No injuries or road closures were reported, and no structures were threatened during the response.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Firefighters responded to a second brush fire Friday afternoon in Anahola.
No injuries were reported. However, four individuals experienced smoke inhalation and were later released on scene.
Shortly before 12:40 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire reported near Kukuihale Road and Manai Road.
The same assets, plus the county emergency helicopter, responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, KFD personnel arrived on scene shortly after 12:45 p.m. and discovered a 200-foot-by-400-foot area of brush and other materials on fire. Firefighters attacked fire from multiple angles, and got the blaze under control by 2:20 p.m., and fully extinguished by 3:20 p.m.
One structure was threatened. Firefighters staged near the structure to prevent the potential spread of the fire.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
