Earl Tsugio Miyao
Earl Tsugio Miyao passed away on Sept. 1, 2022, at his residence in Lawa‘i, at the age of 70. He was born on Feb. 6, 1952 in Lihu‘e. He was retired.
He was preceded in death by parents Nichi Miyao and Pansy Miyao, brother Warren Miyao, sister Helene Tada and nephew Delrick Tada.
He is survived by brother Winston (Marian) Ogata of Lihu‘e and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, a grand nephew and cousins.
A service is Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. followed by service at 3:30 p.m.

Rosemarie Ubongan
Rosemarie Ubongan, 80, of Kapa‘a, passed away peacefully at her home with her husband and three daughters by her side on Aug. 2, 2022. She was born on Sept. 23, 1941, in Lihu‘e. She was best known for owning and operating Dorrik’s Super Service with her husband Dorrik.
She was preceded in passing by parents Harry (Thelma) Victorino and brother David Victorino Sr.
She is survived by her loving husband Dorrik Ubongan, daughters Dorrian (Buddy) Lizama, Dorrine (John) Fornfeist and Dorrilyn (Kenderson Caspillo) Ubongan, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A service is Saturday, Sept. 24, at Ko‘olau Hui‘ia Church in Anahola, with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m.

Ernesto Leonardo Alayvilla
On Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, Ernesto Leonardo Alayvilla, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandpa, father-in-law and uncle, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 94. He was born on Nov. 6, 1927, in San Juan, (Lapog), Ilocos Sur, Philippines.
He was preceded in death by parents Atanacio and Regina Alayvilla, sons Daniel and Danny Alayvilla, daughter Milagros Alayvilla, brothers Salvino, Rufino, Eleuterio and Benny Alayvilla, Concordio Leonardo and sisters Rita Villon and Imay Leonardo.
He is survived by wife Veronica Maria Alayvilla, daughters Regina (Cris) Schenck, Fely (Roger) Akama and Mila (Kyle) Cremer, sons Al (Belinda) Alayvilla and Eddie (Mares) Alayvilla, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family requested services to be held privately. He will be laid to rest at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Jane Iwamoto Hiranaka
Jane Iwamoto Hiranaka passed away on Sept. 9, 2022, in Lihu‘e, at the age of 88. She was born on Nov. 30, 1933, in Lihu‘e. She was a retired secretary for Matson Navigation.
She was preceded in death by mother Tsugi Saiki, sisters May Tomita, Phyllis Morita and Susan Iwasaki, brother Hiro Saiki, and brothers-in-law Koichi Tomita and Kaoru Morita.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Rev. Dr. James Fung (Kahu)
The Rev. Dr. James Fung (Kahu) transitioned from this temporary life on Sept. 9, 2022, joining God and his wife, Faith, to be together “all the time.”
Jim and Faith served God’s people and congregations in Connecticut, Michigan, Honolulu and Kaua‘i. He enjoyed running half and full marathons and revising and trying new recipes in his kitchen, his favorite room in the house. He especially liked baking pumpkin bread, which Faith really enjoyed.
They have a son, Ethan Englehorn, in North Carolina, and daughter, Julia Englehorn, in Berkeley, California.
He wishes to express deep appreciation to those who were understanding, caring and supportive of him and Faith. And we want to thank God for the gift of their life together and for their real life together, which will go on forever.
No public services have been planned at this time.

Kaulana Michael-David Watson
Kaulana Michael-David Watson passed away on Aug. 28, 2022, at the age of 41, in Colorado. He was born on Aug. 2, 1981, in Lihu‘e.
He is survived by spouse Trina Correa, children Nathaniel Cerda, Kaimana Watson, Brandon Jayden Watson, Kawena Watson and Trinity Watson, seven step-children, mother Norma Watson Ross, father John Robert Ross, brothers Robert Gomes and Mauliola Watson and sister Chelan Ross.
A celebration of life is Tuesday, Sept. 27, at O‘ahu Mortuary, 2162 Nu‘uanu Avenue, Honolulu. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by service at 12:30 p.m.
Scattering of his ashes will be at a later date on Kaua‘i.
Alice M. Nishihira
Alice M. Nishihira passed away on Sept. 15, 2022, in Waimea, at the age of 91. She was born on Sept. 29, 1930 in Honolulu. She was a retired secretary.
She was preceded in death by parents Kana and Matsu Shimabuku, husband Donald N. Nishihira, son-in-law Curtis Beougher, and brothers Seijin Hokama and George Shimabuku.
She is survived by sons Jerry (Lenie) Nishihira of Kalaheo and Cy (Deb) Nishihira of Honolulu, daughters Amy Beougher of Ohio, Lynn (Brett) Bauer of Ohio and Joy (Eddy) Kaneshiro of Honolulu, brother James (Elsie) Shimabuku of Hawai‘i, sisters Lynette Nishimura of Hawai‘i, Rose Morita of Hawai‘i, Nancy Furuta of Hawai‘i and Ruth Shima of Hawai‘i, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.
