Road maintenance a matter of safety
Road maintenance a matter of safety
On Route 552 (Koke‘e Road), did they give up mowing the side of the road or is it a seasonal thing?
Same with Route 550 (Wimea Canyon Drive).
These routes should be maintained year round. It helps drivers to have a clear veiw of what’s coming at a curve or around the bend. Especially, where road narrows and becomes one lane.
Don’t know if the state and county are keeping the roadside overgrown to keep people from walking/hiking or parking along side (where parking should be prohibitted)?
However, with the grass mowed it lets drivers see a brighter picture of what’s ahead.
And on the issue of reflectors are getting loose and adding to the rubbish on the roadway/ shoulders.
Maybe we should use glow in the dark paint to line our roadway and get rid of the reflectors.
What say you (Hawaii Transportation Division and Kauai County)? “Just a suggestion!”

Mr Tolbe,. You should take a drive to the Kalalau lookout. Be very interested in your opinion on the road conditions between the meadows and the lookout. Atrocious and getting to be almost impassable!
