PUHI — “Eighteen candidates and 40 Realtors,” said Nani Sadora of the Kaua‘i Board of Realtors Thursday when the Kaua‘i Board of Realtors hosted its speed-candidating event at the Mahiko Lounge at Kilohana. “We invited all of the candidates, but the only ones who responded are here.”
Sadora said the meet-the-candidates gathering was intended for the Realtors Political Action Committee that has promoted the election of pro-Realtor candidates across the United States since 1969. The intent of RPAC is clear — voluntary contributions made by Realtors are used to help candidates who understand and support their interests.
The speed-candidating event was a KBR invitation-only event and Sadora liked how there was a good mix of candidates for all the different levels of government being able to talk more intimately with RPAC members. The timed rotation of candidates allowed for as many people to speak to as many candidates as time allowed.
“We have gubernatorial candidate Duke Aiona and lieutenant governor candidate Seaula Jr. Tupa‘i, who flew in just for this event,” Sadora said.
Alfred Sarmiento, Aiona’s Kaua‘i connection, said Aiona really wanted to attend the coffee hours coming up Tuesday at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center, but could not adjust his schedule to make that event.
“He really wants to have people hear his housing plans, and plans on sustainable agriculture,” Sarmiento said. “He and lieutenant governor candidate Tupa‘i will be here at Olympic Cafe next Saturday from 11 a.m. We will be walking the Kapa‘a businesses after Olympic Cafe, and neighborhoods in the Wailua Houselots area.”
