Happy birthday, Maggie Wilson, who was celebrating her special day at the same time Edie Ignacio Neumiller (happy birthday, Edie!), Rebecca Carnate (she said it was “birthday week” because her birthday was in August) and some of the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i members and guests got together at Kaua‘i Bowl in Rice Shopping Center on Rice Street in Lihu‘e to celebrate the Zontans’ birthdays and participate in a “Let’s Make a Strike for Women’s Rights” activity. Kudos, Adam Apo, for being able to accommodate all those people (it was raining earlier in the day).

Hats off to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Sean Manley, who spent his day off volunteering with Jean Souza and the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery Saturday crew at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e Jean said Manley just happened to visit KOD while his friend was doing business next door at GameStop. Now, is the USCG part of the Kaua‘i Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Day of Service Friday?
Kudos to state Judge Randal Valenciano for being able to officiate Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation football games Saturday night and still make it to The Kaua‘i Marathon before the roads shut down Sunday morning. And more kudos for being able to complete the half marathon (it’s scheduled to return in 362 days and counting).
Kaleo Carvalho did his half in about four hours, and had the blister to show for it (Mayor Derek Kawakami couldn’t believe he had shoes on when they welcomed Jacob Sparkman and his family at Lihu‘e Airport Sunday night. More kudos to Kapa‘a High School Athletic Trainer Chris Ang for breaking the two-hour mark on his half.
