LIHU‘E — Easterseals Hawai‘i volunteers, many of them being Special Olympics athletes, have been working alongside volunteers from Special Olympics and the Hawai‘i State Teachers Association Retired from the onset of the Cop on Top fundraiser for Special Olympics since Thursday at the Walmart store in Lihu‘e.
Friday was no exception as the Cop on Top entered the second of three days raising funds that keep the Special Olympics torch burning.
“They’re not going, anywhere,” said Wai Mata of the Easterseals Hawai‘i staff on Kaua‘i, currently celebrating 75 years of service to Hawai‘i. “I took them in, and they’re going to be there because I’m committed to Easterseals Hawai‘i People Business Partner Dember “D” Domen who came in from Honolulu to have a mini job fair in partnership with the American Job Center Hawai‘i.”
The job fair offered not only positions that were available on Kaua‘i, but positions from around the state were accessible to candidates who stopped by to meet with Domen at the Kokua Building in Lihu‘e. The nine available job positions include four Direct Support Worker positions that are critical to maintaining the Easterseals Hawai‘i level of quality service.
“Easterseals Hawai‘i has 13 facilities across Hawai‘i, including seven on O‘ahu, three on Kaua‘i, two on the Big Island, and one on Maui,” Domen said. “We have 30 open positions that we are looking to fill. Of those 30 positions, there are 13 positions, including four on Kaua‘i, that we need to fill immediately. Those are our Direct Support Worker positions.”
Domen said in addition to what she described as a good employee benefits package, candidates for the Direct Support Workers are also eligible for the $500 sign-on bonus.
Easterseals Hawai‘i, in addition to the four Direct Support Worker positions, has two openings for Speech Language Pathologist, a Care Coordinator, Data Entry Clerk, and a Special Educator.
