WAIPOULI — The Blood Bank of Hawai‘i has experienced difficulty maintaining adequate blood inventory levels this summer. Kaua‘i donors will have the opportunity to help stabilize Hawai‘i’s statewide blood supply when BBH returns to Kaua‘i this week.
The three-day blood drive is Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 23 to 25 at the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort. Hours of operations vary by day: Tuesday, Aug. 23, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 25, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 26 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
To mitigate the drop in summer blood donations, BBH partnered with HUGS Hawai‘i, a local nonprofit organization that fully supports families who have a seriously ill child. All Kaua‘i donations will contribute to providing essential items for HUGS families statewide.
“We really hope the community in Kaua‘i will help us finish our summer strong,” said Todd Lewis, BBH chief operating officer. “All donations from this drive will not only save up to three lives, but will also help these HUGS families who have sick keiki.”
The Hawai‘i Building &Construction Trades Council’s “Giving for a Better Tomorrow – Every Drop Counts” campaign will also give union members, family and friends on Kaua‘i a chance to represent their union while helping to contribute to Hawai‘i’s statewide blood supply when donating.
To maintain a sufficient blood supply for all of Hawai‘i’s hospital needs, BBH aims to secure 120 donations per day on Kaua‘i.
