PUHI — Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics swimmers Brandon Lin and Ryder Lin put their efforts on the leaderboard when the pair performed with the 26-member Team Hawai‘i against 22 other teams during the Western Zones Swim Meet that wrapped up earlier this month in Elk Grove, California.
Brandon, 13, and Ryder, 10, were both chosen from all swimmers in the Hawaiian Islands to be part of a 26-member Team Hawai‘i group, said SKA Coach Curt Colby.
“Both boys competed in six individual events and two relay events,” Colby said. “Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics is very proud of their performances and the points they scored for Team Hawai‘i.”
Brandon’s top events included the boys 13-14 400 individual medley, where he posted a 4-minute, 56.9-second swim for 15th place in the finals, and the 200 butterfly, where he just came up short of the finals on a 2:21.48 swim for 17th place.
“The 400 IM was a 7-second improvement from his state time set a few weeks prior,” Colby said. “He also swam on two relay events to finish 17th and 11th places.”
Ryder’s top performances came in the boys 10 and under 50 breaststroke, where he finished ninth overall on a 41.65 swim. He also finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:30.47 swim, a 13th finish in the 200 IM on a 2:53.71 swim, and a 13th finish in the 100 butterfly with a 1:19.12 swim.
“His ninth finish in the 50 breast was a 2.73 (second) improvement,” Colby said. “He also dropped 3.61 in the 100 breast, and a .74 drop in the 100 fly. He also finished eighth and ninth in the two relay events he swam.”
Colby said Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics will be hosting a two-day Kaua‘i Classic swim tournament this weekend, with SKA swimmers joined by five teams from Maui and O‘ahu, at the YMCA pool in Puhi.
