KOKE‘E — There is no substitute for hearing tales around a campfire, especially when the campfire is in the uplands of Koke‘e and not the usual beach setting.
The Storybook Theatre of Hawai‘i, in partnership with the Koke‘e Lodge, invites families (children ages 10 and older welcomed) to an evening with storytellers Jeff Gere and “Kaua‘i’s Favorite Mountin’ Man” Wayne Jacintho, who will remember the 40-year legacy of park interpreter Pauline Burtner.
On Saturday, Aug. 20, when the sun dips below the horizon starting at 5:30 p.m., the activities at the Koke‘e Lodge include cocktails until 7 p.m. with ki hoalu (slack-key guitar) artist Cindy Combs, storytelling, food and more around the lodge fire. The buffet dinner includes a salad of local greens, vegetables, house pickles and seasonal vinaigrette; a beef or veggie chili featuring local, grass-fed, Maluhia beef or local veggies; Portuguese bean soup, a surprise dessert and more. Admission is $35 per person. Tickets are available at Koke‘e Lodge and at Eventbrite, https://tgilinks.com/3QzbkRF
