The Warrior score could not overcome the 28-0 lead established by Crusader signal-caller Kekahi Graham, who finished by rushing for three touchdowns and passing for three in the Crusaders’ 49-6 win over Kapa‘a, giving the Warriors its second straight loss following its 41-17 blemish from ‘Ai‘ea on the road last week, when Warriors Kapono Na-O and Kahiapo Kuhaulua-Leong found the end zone for Kapa‘a.
As the gridiron preseason continued, Kaua‘i High rebounded from its 33-22 loss to Pearl City to clinch a 58-6 win over the visiting Baldwin Bears of the Maui Interscholastic Federation.
The Waimea Menehune, under the leadership of Head Coach Kyle Linoz, picked up its second straight win, 21-10 over Kekaulike High School at a contest waged on the Valley Isle.
Last week, the Menehune dismantled the Kaimuki Bulldogs, 48-6, with its short-but-quick roster of just 20 players that demonstrated great play on both sides of the ball at Hanapepe Stadium.
With a two-week period to fine tune the gridiron machinery, Kapa‘a will travel to Vidinha Stadium on Aug. 27 to meet Kaua‘i High in the KIF season opener, when the junior varsity game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. followed by the varsity teams squaring off 30 minutes following the completion of the JV contest.
