Senators must back cultivated-meat research
If Senators Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz are serious about addressing climate change, which they should be, the pair must increase funding for cultivated-meat research.
For those who aren’t familiar with the term, cultivated meat is grown from animal cells, without slaughter. It requires a fraction of the greenhouse gas-emissions to produce that raising livestock does.
Unfortunately, production costs for cultivated meat remain too high for this new protein to compete with slaughtered meat. This can be rectified with public money for cellular-agriculture development. Environmentally conscious legislators should support an increase in such funding, given animal agriculture is a leading cause of climate change.

We’ve been hearing the same horror stories for decades about how the world will end on such-and-such date if we don’t change our ways. “Repent, the end is near!” No, it isn’t. And leave my hamburgers alone.
Hey Hutch
What are you talking about? Your comment has absolutely nothing to do with the letter in question. Please enjoy your hamburger.
Hutch, climate won’t get you, but over time the burgers might.
Agree with your letter. If you think climate change isn’t real, you’ve really got your head in the sand. Every day there are untold instances of more and more extreme weather events around the world. Lab grown meat, although just a small fix, is a step in the right direction. Even plant-based “meats” help somewhat. We grill Beyond Burger patties now instead of real beef, and you know what, they taste fine. Have you tried the Impossible brand Italian sausages? Really good and well as their plant-based breakfast sausages. Everyone can start with their own eating habits to try to become part of the solution.
