School started and the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery modified their opening hours to 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. The weekend hours remain 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. It also marked the final day for NOAA intern Abigail Seibel (she’s probably reading this on the plane going back to Nebraska) who spent the past 10 weeks helping Jean Souza and developing educational programs for the KOD while experiencing things like the King Tides, traveling to the outer islands, and even waiting for flying saucers at the Grove Farm Bon Odori event…kudos, Sharyl Lam Yuen, Shawn Shimabukuro, and all those Grove Farm hands on a tremendously successful event where Chef Glenn Hayakawa was a life-saver for Chef Ferdinand Dosono (he even stopped by the Pau Hana Market, Monday) of Kaua‘i Kim Chee.

For Grove Farm, the bon odori festival was only the start as the Puakea Golf Course hosts the Kaua‘i Island Heart Walk, Saturday with registration starting at 6:30 a.m. at Puakea and the walk starting at 7 a.m. where Grove Farm is matching the Grove Farm team’s fundraising efforts up to $5,000.
That only starts a crazy Saturday of activities and events that include the crafters joining the Grove Farm Market (they do this every other month), the Heiva i Kaua‘i at the Kapa‘a Beach Park, the free youth basketball clinic with University of Hawai‘i Coach Eran Ganot and the Rainbow Warriors men’s basketball team, the Make-A-Wish 40th Anniversary launch, and how about the double-header pre-season football games…wow, getting tired just thinking about it.
