LIHU‘E — Youth boys and girls up until Grade 6 should contact Teddy Arroyo at teddy@wesconpw.com to register for a free clinic that will be held Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Kaua‘i High School gym.
Coach Eran Ganot, his staff, and student-athletes from the University of Hawai‘i men’s basketball team will provide instruction at the free clinic where participants will receive a UH shirt while supplies last.
“We appreciate the people of Kaua‘i opening their arms to us,” Ganot said in a release announcing the clinic. “I’ve always said we represent the entire state of Hawai‘i. Our hope is to make regular visits to Kaua‘i as well as to the other neighbor islands. I’d like to thank all the sponsors and organizers for helping to make this possible. We look forward to a great weekend.”
Saturday’s trip to Kaua‘i is the team’s first visit since playing Chaminade University in a regular-season game in December, 2013 at the Kaua‘i High School gym.
“I would like to thank head coach Eran Ganot for bringing his Rainbow Warrior basketball team to Kaua‘i,” said Hawai‘i Senate President Ron Kouchi. “We welcome the team, especially Kamaka Hepa, a 6 foot, 10 inch forward, whose father, Roland Hepa, was a multi-sport athlete from Kapa‘a High School.”
Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami added his appreciation and mahalo to the many sponsors and coordinators for allowing the clinic to be free for participants.
“We are very grateful to Coach Ganot and the UH men’s basketball team for providing this exciting opportunity for our Kaua‘i keiki to play alongside their mentors,” Kawakami said.
The Coach Eran Ganot and the UH men’s basketball youth basketball clinic is made possible through the efforts of Bank of Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i Pacific Health, Meridian Pacific LTD, the Kekaha Agriculture Association, the County of Kaua‘i, The Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort, Duke’s Kaua‘i, Kipu Adventures, Hawaiian Air, Grove Farm, the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League, Kaua‘i High School, Aloun Farm, Kaua‘i Shrimp, The Plantation House by Gaylord’s, and the Puakea Grill.
