LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Golf Tournament is returning to an in-person format following two years of no play because of the pandemic shutdown.
“Registration for the tournament closes in August,” said Cyndi Ayonon, president of the KFCC, and chair of the silent auction that is part of the tournament’s Award Luncheon. “But the golf tournament will play in September — Labor Day, Sept. 5. People need to sign up, now because the deadline closes on August 23.”
The KFCC Scholarship Golf Tournament will play on Labor Day, Sept. 5 at the Wailua Golf Course with registration starting at 6 a.m. and a shotgun start at 7 a.m.
Tournament play is a four-person modified scramble with the maximum handicap for men being 27, and the maximum handicap for women being 36.
Registration fee is $100 per golfer and includes green fees, golf cart, and the post-play Awards Luncheon that will be held at the Lydgate Park pavilion.
Non-golfers are invited to join the luncheon that starts at 11 a.m. for a contribution of $25 per person.
“This golf tournament is the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s only major fundraising event to benefit the scholarship program,” said tournament co-chairs Bobby Ayonon and Derrick Adams. “Despite not having the tournament in 2022, the Filipino Chamber was able to award $8,000 to Kaua‘i High School seniors.”
Over the past 19 years, the KFCC Scholarship Golf Tournament has raised more than $160,000 that was shared by Kaua‘i students that, following graduation from college, return to become part of the workforce and give back to the community that supported them following high school.
The KFCC Scholarship Golf Tournament, and the KFCC Scholarship program started in 2001.
In addition to golfers, sponsorship opportunities for hole sponsorships and the silent auction are available at different levels of support.
Information and registration forms are available at the KFCC website at kauaifilipinochamber.org., or by calling Derrick Adams at 808-348-0285, or Bobby Ayonon at 808-639-3591.
