David Wolman came from Hawai‘i Island to put his pen to the paper of the story of Ikua Purdy and his cousins Jack Low and Archie Ka‘au‘a in his book “Aloha Rodeo” (it was available at the Talk Story Bookstore in Hanapepe during the third week of Friday Night Art Walk). Is Nick’s Food the food truck Ed Justus said just opened?

No, the Friday Night Art Walk is not the rodeo that opened the week-long Koloa Plantation Days (Ada Koene, who will be at the Kaua‘i Historical Society Koloa Plantation Days exhibit and book sale all week, said there will be 25 events!), but Joanne Parongao brought the flavor of the Ikua Purdy days in front of The Storybook Theatre in Hanapepe (what’s this about a workshop, Mark Jeffers?), where Emilia Knudsen was back (she’s all grown up to where she can even do the fire dance!).
Erin Deere is visiting from Oregon, and came to the weekly relief day at Ho‘omana Thrift Store (you gotta check out that ingenious shopping bag at the Ho‘okipa Kaua‘i Food Pantry created by Rowena Contrades Pangan!) to help Pat Coon (they’re both nurses) with some of the clients’ medical problems.
Mahalo, Varion (mahalo, Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort Lihu‘e, for connecting them to Tina Albao — she bumped into Boys &Girls Club Hawai‘i board members Morgan Lopez, who was thrilled about KHON2 talking about Jelle and Stacy Waikoloa and the Boys &Girls Club!), for contributing all those meeting supplies.
Congratulations, Kristyl Apeles, on the opening of the Alakoko Store (Barbara Gusman did a fabulous job of managing traffic on Kress Street in Lihu‘e!) with Mark Perriello and the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce ‘ohana, where Laurie Yoshida of Corteva made the trek all the way over from the Westside.
OK, time to go check out Koloa Plantation Days!
