NAWILIWILI — Boys &Girls Club Kaua‘i Director of Operations &Development Tina Albao was thrilled to learn they were recipients of toys, beach equipment, and other items, Friday.
“This is so good,” Albao said. “These are all items we can use at the clubhouses. I love these mainland groups.”
Friday’s group is from Varian Medical Systems, a radiation oncology treatment and software maker based in Palo Alto, California.
“There are about 160 of ‘America’s finest’ here at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort,” a spokesperson for the group said. “This is an annual event that used to be held in February. But things happen, and we’re here, now. This works even better because the Little Varions are out of school. We might re-think this and have it in the summer when the little ones can have fun, too.”
Albao said everything fell into place because one of their member’s parent works at the Royal Sonesta where the Varion group had inquired with some of the resort’s associates about a deserving group to leave the items when they leave.
This led to the meeting of Albao and the Varian group that asked to remain connected even after they leave.
The Boys &Girls Club is no stranger to the benevolence of visiting groups. In recent history, visiting groups contributed physical equity as well as financial contributions that helped the different clubhouses grow and improve to benefit its members.
