LIHU‘E — Waiting through the uncertainties of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation grounded a lot of the uncertainties with the release of its partial fall season calendar.
The calendar is still awaiting final scheduling for bowling, but that sport scheduling should be finished in the near future.
In the meantime, football starts the action as early as July 28 when the defending KIF and D2 state champion Kapa‘a High School take to Vidinha Stadium for a scrimmage encounter against Mililani High School.
Junior varsity teams will kick off starting at 2 p.m., and the varsity teams will see action starting at 4:30 p.m.
Other preseason, non-league games will have the Kapa‘a Warriors traveling to take on ‘Ai‘ea High School at the Radford High School field on Aug. 6, the same date that Pearl City High School will take on Kaua‘i High School at Vidinha Stadium starting at 5 p.m. when the JV teams kick off. The varsity teams meet at a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Also on Aug. 6, Waimea High School will be finding its feet against the Kaimuki Bulldogs in a 7 p.m. encounter.
The following week, on Aug. 13, the Baldwin Bears from the Maui Interscholastic League will visit Kaua‘i High at Vidinha Stadium for a single game with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
On the same date, Waimea will travel to meet Kekaulike High School at the Kekaulike field on Hawai‘i Island. No start time is indicated to wrap up the football preseason.
The first league game kicks off on Aug. 27 when the league champion Kapa‘a comes to visit Kaua‘i High at Vidinha Stadium. The JV contest kicks off at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity match kicking off 30 minutes following the completion of the JV game.
On the cross country fields, Island School will host a preseason invitational meet on Sept. 10 at its Puhi campus starting at 7:30 a.m.
The following week, Sept. 17, the KIF will host its first meet hosted by Kaua‘i High at the Puakea Golf Course starting at 7:30 a.m.
The Run Kaua‘i Club will host its Middle School Invitationals starting Sept. 30 at the Puakea Golf Course starting at 5 p.m., and on Oct. 7 at Island School starting at 4 p.m.
There are no preseason girls volleyball games posted on the KIF schedule, and the girls’ first games are scheduled for Sept. 6 with Island School traveling to the Clem Gomes Gym in Waimea, and Kapa‘a visiting the Red Raiders at the Kaua‘i High School gym. The JV games serve up from 5 p.m. at both locations with the varsity contest getting underway 25 minutes following the completion of the JV games.
Schedules for bowling and air riflery are still pending.
