Mummy’s Mommy was not moving on the Kapa‘a bypass road, but Maile Bloxsom of Vicky’s Fabrics (it’s still their 40th anniversary) was getting excited by all the curves and not-straight lines in Lesley (Mommy) Morris’ quilting creations Friday on opening day of the Garden Isle Quilters exhibit and sale (Lesley said Friday morning was really good!) at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.

Mahalo, Tommy Rita for that Oki’s guri Guri that, he said, a little calmanci would make it perfect!
Vicky Masuoka was perfectly content to sit at the bar and watch Maile get carried away. She succumbed to m.Lea Ingram’s banana leaf. Julie Fregeau got to help Maile pull winners for the Vicky’s Fabric 40th anniversary (“We pull ‘em anywhere, any time!” Maile said) lucky-number drawings. Toni Wass said they’ll have cake and goodies Friday from 10 a.m. until the cake runs out at the shop located on Kuhio Highway near Pono Market. The only thing missing (even the quilter-to-be Liz Greenwood was there) was Jeni Hardy.
Jean Souza was closing Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery (they still have room for keiki ages 8 to 12 wanting to learn how to make the shark swim in the afternoon session of the coding workshop!), where National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Intern Abigail Seibel was getting excited about Friday night because of the sale at Safeway, and the foster grandparents volunteers were getting excited about Alu Like letting them sing and dance again.
And, kudos to MaBel Fujiuchi (mahalo for the thoughtfulness and considerations!) and all those Zonta Club of Kaua‘i hands who got to celebrate their scholarship recipients after Puakea Grill closed at 6 p.m. That’s gotta be some great women power!
