LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i High School Athletic Department is looking for a new wrestling head coach following the departure of the former coach for personal reasons.
Interested parties should contact Athletic Director Keli‘i Morgado at 808-274-3169 for application forms or more information.
“The varsity head coach is responsible for all aspects of the boys and girls wrestling program,” Morgado said. “The coach must demonstrate strong leadership in player and staff development, sportsmanship, integrity and character development. Qualified candidates should possess strong skills in communication, organization, practice-plan development and fundraising. They should demonstrate exceptional knowledge of the skills and strategies of the sport of wrestling.”
Although wrestling is considered a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation winter sport with matches taking place in January, the advent of community-wrestling programs like the recent Kaua‘i USA Wrestling spring season means a lot of high school wrestlers participate in non-league community programs to enhance their skillsets in the off-season.
With the conclusion of the spring season, practices continue at sites in Kapa‘a and Waimea for high-school wrestlers desiring participation in off-island camps and tournaments.
