Kudos to the Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association for all that hard work over the past couple of days to get the Keiki and Junior Lifeguards program underway — Dr. Monty Downs said he used to be able to do 100 compressions in a minute when he was in the Emergency Room! — and still have time to not only help with the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank (yes, Kelvin Moniz, KLA was at the Chamber of Commerce Second Quarter General Meeting on Wednesday night, too!) food distribution in Anahola. They even donated to KIFB to help get more food for those who are looking at food insecurity…yes, even water counts as Michelle Panoke of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i was picking up a cartful of water donated by a shopper at the Pau Hana Market on Monday at the Kukui Grove Center!

Among those helping lead this year’s program is Micah Nobriga, a former Junior Lifeguard, and Randy Ortiz’s daughters (even mom was watching the girls at Kalapaki Beach) Kelsey and Kiani are now instructors, keeping the Randy Ortiz legacy going. Oh, and we’re not forgetting the efforts of Kleve Zarbaugh, Tyrus Siale and Dave Duncan!
Don’t forget…this weekend is full of pop ups starting with Debbie Yanagihara setting up the Island Craft Fair (a portion goes back to the Kaua‘i Veterans Center and Museum!) at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center Saturday from 8 a.m. along Veterans Memorial Highway, and the young lawyers will be at The Grove Farm Market from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
It is the fourth Sunday in June, so it’s the Wailua Bay Creator’s Fair (the early shoppers had a chance at hot malasada, last month) at the Hilton Garden Inn Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
