ORLANDO, Florida — The Kaua‘i Special Olympics athletes continue to shine at the Special Olympics USA Games as part of Team Hui O Hawai‘i, said Special Olympics coach Leona Sa McDermott.
During the Unified Bowling Competition held Thursday Kaua‘i athlete Carleen Yamamoto teamed with her Unified Partner Brianne Lazaro to earn a fifth-place USA Ribbon in the tournament.
Continuing to the competition, Saturday, the Hui O Hawai‘i Unified Athletes from the Garden Island placed second for the Silver Medal in the Unified Bowling Competition, Sa McDermott said.
The 2022 Special Olympics USA Games will run through Sunday in Orlando. The games will unite more than 5,500 athletes and coaches from all 50 states, and the Caribbean. There are more than 20,000 volunteers and 125,000 spectators participating in one of the country’s most cherished sporting events.
