PRINCEVILLE — Tennis team Hanalei Reign won the sectionals in the U.S. Tennis Association 3.5 40+ league over Memorial Day weekend.
PRINCEVILLE — Tennis team Hanalei Reign won the sectionals in the U.S. Tennis Association 3.5 40+ league over Memorial Day weekend.
They swept their competition from Maui (4-0) and East Hawai‘i (4-0) while only taking one loss in a tiebreak against a team from Oahu (3-1).
Hanalei Reign was winning in their last match against another O‘ahu team when play was canceled due to rain on Sunday. Hanalei Reign had lost 54 individual games compared to their next closest competitor at 108 losses when the competition ended.
Winning the Hawai‘i Pacific Section enables the team to move on to compete at nationals in Scottsdale, Arizona in October. They are guaranteed to play matches on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, but need to win in order to play in the final matches on Oct. 9.
Team members are Cee Cee Simmons of Hanalei, Andrea Weston-Webb of Princeville, Angela Zusman of ‘Oma‘o, Ceceli Wilhelmi of Lawa‘i, Carla LaFratta of Kalihiwai, Gretchen Imdieke of Kilauea, team captain Korin Dunford of Princeville, and Tanya Wadhwani of Kalihiwai.
