Mahalo, Carol Yotsuda of the Garden Island Arts Council, for bringing the Boro Boro Boutique to the Kaumuali‘i Ancestral Stories event at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall n Lihu‘e, where Drena Parker also had her Hawaiian artwork on hand because Drena said they didn’t participate in the Merrie Monarch Festival.
Carol was working on her “Yardman Needs a Chanchanko” piece that was due Friday for an art exhibition opening in Honolulu. The artwork was based on all those fashions created by Carol’s “Friday ladies” who created recycled and upcycled fashion from old fabric and clothes as a fundraiser for mosaic tile artist Kathleen Ho, who is working on a downsized version of the Hawaiian moon calendar at the Alakoko Fishpond.
We need to see the Boro Boro Boutique more to check out Carol’s ceramic pieces (inlaid cucumbers and tomatoes?), and how about those Eve Solomon pieces since Eve moved away from Kaua‘i?
Welcome to Kaua‘i, Abigail Seibel, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration intern who started working with Jean Souza of the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery in time for the World Oceans Day activity. So, where’s the ocean in New Mexico where she was raised, or Nebraska where she’s going to school with a major of computer engineering and a minor in water science?
OK, time to reflect on the 100th Infantry Battalion that is celebrating its 80th anniversary of being formed.
