Mahalo, Debbie Yanagihara of the Kaua‘i Island Crafters Fair who coordinates the crafters’ fair at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center, where a portion of the proceeds go back to benefit the Kaua‘i Veterans Center. Her generations-old effort coincided with the Memorial Day weekend, where Susan Iwai and Veteran Johnette Chun (they were helping Kaua‘i Nursery and Landscaping at the Kaua‘i Economic Development Board job fair!) had fashioned “Remember and Honor” out of plastic drinking cups on the fence of the Kaua‘i Veterans Center.

Sara Liberto of Sara K Jewels was making her first appearance at the craft fair that opens at 8 a.m. and continues to 2 p.m., attracting a lot of stops from early arrivals at the nearby Lihu‘e Airport. Sara (no “H”) said she’s been doing “simple and elegant” jewelry for three years and only recently re-branded (her website is coming, soon).
She was introduced by Jessica Clabo of Rainbow Wave Art who’s taken her glass art to a different level from when she started working the craft under the booth’s founder. The glass art was brought to light by Paula Ishii (whose sister was selling plumeria and other art on the next table), and now evolved to Jessica’s unique style.
Josh Goodman (you gotta check out his surfer and wave photo!) had his silver (yes, he works with Dana Romsdal of Goldsmith Kaua‘i, and her student Maria Fumagalli — she was learning to sign “camera” from Dana) designs out along with those wave photos. And Liliana Estep of Shell of a Lifetime (you gotta go see that new broach creation!) was lucky to have a friend step in so she could go paddle in a regatta.
Debbie said she’ll be back at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center on June 25 (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.). In the meantime, the Operation Christmas Child has piqued her brain because of that rummage sale taking place at the Lihu‘e Missionary Church.
