Uli‘i Castor was happy (it’s the beverages that make it ‘Happy’) to get together with her Ka‘ahumanu Society sisters for some lei-making for Donna Loo and the Kaua‘i Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
The lei will be used to decorate graves at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery for Memorial Day (yes, the Kaua‘i Veterans Council is hosting a service on Monday, May 30, starting at 10 a.m., with veteran and U.S. Rep. Kai Kahele delivering comments as the guest speaker).
Congratulations to Kaua‘i Community College natural science faculty member Dr. Brian Yamamoto on winning the Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for 2022! Brian, who normally coordinates the KCC commencement, was able to be a spectator this year, getting a front-row seat when Duke Lang was announced the recipient of the traditional Excellence in Teaching honor.
OK, so who heard the news about all the “new” Canon camera equipment?
Padraic Gallagher (great job on those smoke alarm installations!) said he was able to get in his practice for Pedal to the Meadow (are we still taking registrations for the Saturday event?).
The American Red Cross installations finished in enough time to check out the Wailua Bay Creators’ Fair (kudos, Attalia and Eric Alverdes on a great event with malasadas, Shaka Burgers, Sean Carillo and more
Artist Nathan Shuey said he always wanted to do something with the opala from the time he got here, and thanks to the Kaua‘i Society of Artists’ Washed Up Marine Debris Art Exhibit, got an opportunity to put together his “Final Re-Birth” using an Easter egg, the smallest night light he could find, and some driftwood that was hanging around.
The placement of the exhibit organizers was perfect for the key in seeing how Nathan’s and Abigail Borough’s pieces stimulate brain exercises. Nice colors in the “different perspective” dried grasses, Brian Atendido!
