Mom and Kaua‘i Police Department Sgt. Darla Nonaka (how many years have you done graduation duty, sergeant?) said Jordon Dizon is going to be a national scout for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles after all these years with the Denver Broncos. Nonaka has been on graduation duty from the time Jordon and Taryn were Waimea High School students. Remember how Jordon got football shoes for the Menehune football team after being drafted by the Detroit Lions?

Kudos to Principal Mahina Anguay and her very capable ‘ohana on hosting another graduation ceremony, where the newly-hired state Department of Education Superintendent Keith Hayashi got to visit with Kaua‘i Board of Education member William “Coach Bill” Arakaki. Joyce Evens said she was a teacher when guest speaker Keahi Tucker of Hawai‘i News Now was a Menehune.
And kudos to Shelby Ann Erdmann on being named Kaua‘i Complex Area Teacher of the Year!
Definitely a lot of excitement for boys volleyball coach Tori Kagawa, who juggled graduation Friday with the Celebration of Champions Saturday at the park next to Grove Farm headquarters (Halia Moriguchi survived Project Grad to go visit University of Hawai‘i men’s volleyball coach Charlie Wade and company). Oh, yeah, Tori also helped at Project Grad, too.
Congratulations, graduates from all of the public high schools. Mayor Derek Kawakami got wet at Kapa‘a High’s graduation, where he spoke and also saw daughter Hailee Kawakami pick up her diploma, and was grateful there was sun and light winds at Puhi Park.
OK, time to go check out Meatless Mondays that start today at the Wilcox Health Cafe (nice name change during all that time we couldn’t go because of the COVID) at Wilcox Medical Center. They’re open from 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. weekdays.
